Quick Toasted Anise Biscuits

These are crunchy biscuits a bit like biscotti but simpler to make, with only four ingredients. Perfect for afternoon tea or with coffee.


Serves: 16 

  • 2 eggs
  • 2/3 cup (150g) caster sugar
  • 1 teaspoon anise seed
  • 1 cup (125g) plain flour

Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:40min 

  1. Preheat oven to 190 degrees C. Grease and flour a 23x13cm loaf pan.
  2. Beat the eggs and sugar together thoroughly. Add the anise seed then mix in the flour.
  3. Scrape dough into the prepared loaf pan (it will only be about 1/2 full).
  4. Bake in preheated oven for about 20 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean. Remove from the pan onto a wire rack to cool. Cut into 16 slices using a sharp serrated knife.
  5. Place slices on a flat sheet and bake for 5 minutes until bottom is browned. Turn and bake further 5 minutes until the other side is browned.
