Camping Stuffed Trout

    17 minutes

This is a recipe we make when we go on fishing trips and cook on the camp fire. It can easily be replicated in your BBQ at home if you are not the camping type.

    6 people made this

    Serves: 4

    • 4 trout, cleaned and head removed
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt and pepper, to taste
    • 4 tablespoons butter, divided
    • 1 medium green capsicum, sliced
    • 1 clove garlic, crushed

    Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:7min  ›  Ready in:17min

    1. Place each trout on a piece of aluminium foil. Season to taste with salt and pepper then stuff the cavity with 1 tablespoon of butter, green capsicum and garlic if using.
    2. Roll the trout tightly in the foil forming packets. Use some additional foil to secure each packet of fish to a metal toasting rod for use as a handle when removing fish from the coals.
    3. Cover the fish packets in the red hot, smouldering coals from your campfire and cook until the fish is done; 7 to 10 minutes depending on the heat of the fire.

love this works very well on the BBQ as well and for most fish.  -  23 Sep 2006  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)

Made this with trout my husband caught up in AR couple of weeks ago. It was good. A little boring for me but still easy and came out very flaky and tender. My husband thought it was good too.  -  17 Aug 2010  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)

I have cooked trout this way for years. However I use stuffing mix (stovetop our similar) to fill the fish. Works easily with campfire our on grill. I also place thin sliced butter between foul and fish inn each side. The fish skin will peel right off with the foil when you open it and leaves a moist, flavorful trout with it's own side dish. Perfect when camping and fresh caught trout.  -  10 Oct 2013  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)
