    Four different types of beans are mixed in a sweet sauce with treacle, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire and Tabasco, then oven baked with streaky bacon.

    Serves: 14 

    • 1 (400g) tin kidney beans, drained (optional)
    • 1 (400g) tin borlotti beans, drained
    • 1 (400g) tin butter beans, drained
    • 1 (400g) tin cannellini beans, drained
    • 1 small bottle (60ml) Tabasco(TM)
    • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
    • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 2 tablespoons treacle
    • 3 rashers streaky bacon, cut in half

    Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:1hour  ›  Ready in:1hour10min 

    1. Preheat oven to 160 degrees C.
    2. In a medium baking dish, mix kidney beans, borlotti beans, butter beans, cannellini beans, Tabasco, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce and treacle. Top with bacon.
    3. Bake 1 hour in the preheated oven, until thick and bubbly.

    Altered ingredient amounts. I use this recipe all the time when I want a quick side dish. To speed things up I put it in the microwave until nice and hot then put in the oven. Cuts the baking time in 1/2. I don't use as much chilli sauce as it says and I still get a nice spicy baked bean dish. Last time I added some ham and a little liquid smoke. YUM! - 29 Sep 2008


    This recipe has great flavour - the chilli sauce really perks it up. Sadly, though, it was a bit too dry. I also enjoy the various beans, each having a different consistancy, even the lima beans were good (and I don't eat limas). Overall, it was a good change from the usual baked bean recipes.     I love this recipe. Not only is it quick & easy, but the chilli sauce gives the beans a great taste. They are not to spicy nor are they too sweet. Just perfect. One thing I do differently, is I dice the bacon & fry it first, then mix it into the beans. Excellent! - 29 Sep 2008
