Rice and Sweet Potato Porridge

Rice porridge is a traditional Chinese breakfast, this version also includes sweet potato. Serve with traditional rice porridge condiments.


Serves: 4 

  • 150g rice, rinsed
  • 150g sweet potato, peeled and cut into 3cm cubes

Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:1hour5min  ›  Ready in:1hour15min 

  1. Place the rice in a large saucepan with 2 1/2 litres water. Bring to the boil over medium-high heat then turn the heat down to simmer.
  2. Simmer for 20 minutes stirring occasionally to prevent the rice sticking on the bottom of the saucepan.
  3. Add the sweet potatoes. Simmer for an additional 40 minutes or until the rice and sweet potatoes become soft and the porridge is thick.
