Taro cakes are a delicious Thai dessert. You should be able to find taro at Asian markets. Great as a snack or light dessert.


Serves: 6 

  • Coconut Topping
  • 30g desiccated coconut
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Cake
  • 120g rice flour
  • 30g tapioca flour
  • 1/3 cup (90g) sugar
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) water
  • 1-2 drops jasmine extract
  • 120g taro, peeled and diced small
  • 1 cup (90g) desiccated coconut

    Coconut Topping

  1. Mix the desiccated coconut with the salt and reserve for later.
  2. Cake

  3. Mix the rice flour and tapioca flour together then add the sugar and mix.
  4. Gradually add the water and jasmine extract then stir until the sugar dissolves.
  5. Add the taro and remaining desiccated coconut then stir until well combined.
  6. Fill foil muffin cases 3/4 full then add the coconut topping.
  7. Place into a prepared steamer. Steam for 20 minutes and serve.
