Indonesian Sambal

There are lots of condiments served with Indonesian dishes and a common one is sambal, this is an easy recipe for one using chilli and shallots.


Serves: 6 

  • 3 red chillies
  • 5 shallots
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/2 small tomato, cut into small pieces
  • 2 teaspoon oil
  • 1 pinch salt, to taste
  • 1/2 lime, juiced

Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:5min  ›  Ready in:15min 

  1. Pound the chillies, shallots, garlic and tomato in a mortar and pestle until a fine paste.
  2. Heat a little oil in frypan and saute the paste stirring until fragrant.
  3. Remove from heat and season with salt and lime juice.
