Korean Spring Onions Salad

    This is a quick spring onion salad from Korea known as 'Pamuchim'. The spring onions are well washed before being dressed with a soy sauce, red chilli powder and pepper mixture.

    Serves: 2 

    • 10 spring onions, sliced thinly
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons soy sauce
    • 1/2 teaspoon vinegar
    • 1/4 teaspoon Korean red chilli powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon sesame seeds
    • 1 pinch ground black pepper, to tatse
    • 2-3 drops sesame oil

    1. Clean the spring onions then cut in half and slice thinly. Wash the onions in cold water 2-3 times and put them in a colander to drain for 20 minutes. The spring onions will go curly.
    2. Put the spring onions in a bowl and add the soy sauce, vinegar, red chilli powder and sesame seeds. Mix very gently.
    3. Add the 2-3 drops sesame oil in and mix again just before serving to avoid saggy spring onions.

    I love having this side dish when I eat kalbi. This is the exact recipe that my mom uses and it's the best! One thing I will mention is to make sure the green onions are completely dry before you start adding anything to it.
