Asian Mince with Peas and Potatoes

    This is a wok cooked version of the traditional English mince with peas and potatoes. This version uses garlic, cinnamon and soy sauce to create the gravy.

    Serves: 4 

    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    • 3 cloves garlic, finely diced
    • 2 medium onions, finely diced
    • 500g beef or pork mince
    • 2 medium potatoes, diced
    • 1 stick cinnamon
    • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder, optional
    • 1 teaspoon light soy sauce
    • 1 teaspoon dark soy sauce
    • 1 pinch salt and pepper, to taste
    • 1/2 cup (125ml) water
    • 250g frozen peas, thawed
    • Fresh coriander, finely diced

    1. In a large wok heat the oil then stir fry the garlic and onion until fragrant and the onions are translucent.
    2. Add the meat and break it up with a spatula. Cook until no longer pink.
    3. Add the potatoes, cinnamon stick and chilli powder and season with soy sauces, salt and pepper to taste.
    4. Add the water and stir to mix. Simmer for about 10 minutes or until the potatoes are tender. Stir in the peas. Taste and adjust seasonings, if desired.
    5. Sprinkle with coriander and serve hot with rice or French bread.
