Chocolate and Red Wine Cake

    I love chocolate cake and this is an easy one to make with the red wine adding a lovely richness not always found in other recipes.

    Serves: 12 

    • 2 1/2 cups (310g) plain flour
    • 250g soft butter
    • 1 cup (250g) sugar
    • 5 eggs
    • 4 tablespoons baking powder
    • 125ml red wine
    • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
    • 2 teaspoons cocoa
    • 150g chocolate chips
    • chocolate sauce, to taste

    1. Fold in the chocolate chips.
    2. After cooling pour the chocolate sauce over top to serve.
    3. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C.
    4. Beat flour, butter, sugar, eggs, baking powder, red wine, cinnamon and cocoa into a smooth mixture.
    5. Pour the cake mixture into a greased cake tin and bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes.
