Easy Sauce for Ribs

    Tomato sauce is simmered with a mix to spicy red chillies, rich brown sugar, crushed garlic, diced onion and fennel seeds to create a delicious sauce for ribs.

    Serves: 12 

    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 1 small onion, diced
    • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
    • 1 fresh red chilli, finely diced
    • 5 tablespoons brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds, crushed
    • 230g tomato sauce
    • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
    • salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

    1. Heat the oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the onion, garlic, red chilli, brown sugar and fennel seeds. Cook until onion is tender and sugar has melted. Mix in tomato sauce and soy sauce. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low then simmer for 10 minutes.

    Interesting flavor with the fennel seeds and soy sauce, very non-traditional. I ran short of BBQ sauce for a slow cooker pulled pork recipe today, so I made this easy sauce, and used about 1/2 cup to top off off the pork.
