German Chocolate Torte

This German chocolate torte is known as 'Marliesentorte' It has a wonderful chocolate base with whipped cream and nuts. It is better the longer you leave it so I usually make it the evening before.


Serves: 12 

  • Cake
  • 5 eggs
  • 100g sugar
  • 150g milk chocolate, finely grated
  • 300g ground nuts
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • Topping
  • 600ml cream
  • 50g milk chocolate, finely grated

Preparation:15min  ›  Cook:40min  ›  Extra time:3hours chilling  ›  Ready in:3hours55min 

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C and grease a 26cm springform cake tin.
  2. Cake: Mix all the pastry ingredients in a bowl and pour into the greased tin. Bake in the preheated oven for about 40 minutes.
  3. Allow the cake base to cool and cut about 2/3 of the top of it off.
  4. Filling: Whisk the cream until stiff. Crumble the cake you cut off and fold into the whipped cream.
  5. Put the springform rim around the bottom again and spread the cream cake mix onto the cake base.
  6. Sprinkle with the grated chocolate. Leave for a few hours in the refrigerator before eating.
