Sloppy Joe

    This is a recipe for an American favourite known as a 'Sloppy Joe' which is effectively a hamburger that uses a casserole rather than a patty. It is extremely popular with the kids.

    Serves: 6 

    • 500g lean beef mince
    • 1 onion, diced
    • 1 clove garlic, diced
    • 300ml tomato sauce or pasta sauce
    • 6 tablespoons barbecue sauce
    • 1 pinch salt, to taste
    • 1 pinch pepper, to taste
    • 2 tablespoons plain flour, optional
    • 6 burger buns

    Preparation:5min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:35min 

    1. Add beef mince, onion and garlic to a saucepan and fry until brown then drain off the fat.
    2. Mix the tomato sauce and barbecue sauce together then add to the saucepan along with salt and pepper, to taste.
    3. Leave to simmer for 20 minutes or until sauce has thickened up. Add the flour and stir in well if you like to thicken more.
    4. Serve on burger buns.
