This is a recipe for an American favourite known as a 'Sloppy Joe' which is effectively a hamburger that uses a casserole rather than a patty. It is extremely popular with the kids.
500g lean beef mince
1 onion, diced
1 clove garlic, diced
300ml tomato sauce or pasta sauce
6 tablespoons barbecue sauce
1 pinch salt, to taste
1 pinch pepper, to taste
2 tablespoons plain flour, optional
6 burger buns
- Add beef mince, onion and garlic to a saucepan and fry until brown then drain off the fat.
- Mix the tomato sauce and barbecue sauce together then add to the saucepan along with salt and pepper, to taste.
- Leave to simmer for 20 minutes or until sauce has thickened up. Add the flour and stir in well if you like to thicken more.
- Serve on burger buns.
