Fish and Potato Pie

This is an easy to make fish pie using a mash potato top and creme fraiche with cheese instead of a time consuming and tricky roux based sauce.


Serves: 6 

  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 400g mixed seafood e.g. mussels, prawns, salmon and flathead
  • 300ml creme fraiche or double cream
  • 100g cheddar cheese, grated
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 large baking potatoes
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper, to taste

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees C.
  2. Peel the potatoes and cut into even sized pieces then boil for approximately 20 minutes or until soft.
  3. Add eggs to saucepan of potatoes and hard boil.
  4. Soften onion and garlic in a little oil then add the seafood and fry until starting to turn opaque.
  5. Add the creme fraiche and 3/4 of the cheese then stir until the cheese is melted.
  6. Peel the hard boiled eggs and cut roughly, Add to fish mix.
  7. Season to taste with salt and pepper then pour into a casserole dish.
  8. Mash the potatoes and smooth over the fish mix. Sprinkle the top with the remaining cheese and bake in the oven for half an hour or until the top is starting to brown.
