The use of tonic water reduces the salt content plus there is no added fat. The end result is a healthy, succulent and sweet leg of ham. Serve hot with cauliflower cheese and peas.
1 leg of ham
1 litre water
1 litre tonic water
- Place the ham in large saucepan and just cover with tap water.
- Bring to the boil and boil rapidly for 10 minutes.
- Dispose of water.
- Return ham to saucepan and just cover with tonic water.
- Bring to the boil then reduce to a simmer for anything from 1 to 3 hours depending on size of ham.
