Dumplings are a great addition to soups and stews. If you want to make them more interesting add some fresh herbs.


Serves: 6 

  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon caster sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 cup milk

Preparation:5min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Ready in:20min 

  1. Stir together flour, baking powder, sugar and salt in medium size bowl. Rub in butter until crumbly. Stir in milk to make a soft dough.
  2. Drop by spoonfuls into boiling stew. Cover and simmer 15 minutes without lifting lid. Serve.

Parsley dumplings

To make parsley dumplings, add 1 tablespoon chopped parsley to the dry ingredients.

yum yum yumm!! lol just made these and they made my caserole just de-lish! i always remember mum making them as a kid but i never realized how easy they were and how little ingredients you need! thank u for this recipe it will be a common one in my house now, hehe - 27 Apr 2011
