Skirlie is a traditional Scottish dish. It can be eaten on its own as a meat substitute, used as a stuffing or served as a side with a meat dish.


Serves: 2 

  • 60g butter or dripping
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 100g coarse oats
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper, to taste

Preparation:5min  ›  Cook:10min  ›  Ready in:15min 

  1. Melt the butter or dripping in a frying pan.
  2. Add the onion and cook until slightly browned and soft.
  3. Add the oatmeal a bit at a time, stirring until all the fat is absorbed.
  4. Season then serve.
