Wholemeal Bread with Pumpkin and Sunflower Seeds

    Using part wholemeal part white flour makes this a light loaf. The seeds give it a lovely nutty texture. I make it in a bread machine set on medium brown. Makes one 750g loaf.

    Serves: 6 

    • 300ml water
    • 2 tablespoons margarine or butter, softened
    • 2 cups (250g) white bread flour
    • 1 cup (125g) wholemeal flour
    • 3 tablespoons dried milk powder
    • 2 tablespoons sugar
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
    • 2 teaspoons bread machine yeast
    • 5 tablespoons pumpkin and sunflower seed mix

    Preparation:5min  ›  Cook:3hours  ›  Extra time:1hour cooling  ›  Ready in:4hours5min 

    1. Put ingredients in bread machine in order shown. You can add the seeds from the start or add them at the beep to indicate the second kneading phase.
    2. Select basic or white cycle and prtess Start. Remove from pan once done and cool on rack for 1 hr before slicing or bagging.


    You can use all white flour if wanting a white seeded bread. You can also substitute the seeds for the ones you prefer but beware of adding too many as this can make the bread not rise so well.

    I love this recipe. I am new to breadmaking and this is so easy, light and soft everytime. I have made it 6 times and I constantly change the mix of seeds but still use the recommended amount - approx  -  31 Dec 2010


    Excellent recipe. My go-to bread recipe. Only change I make is to add 1 1/2 teaspoons of sugar, as I find 1 tablespoon too sweet. Otherwise, perfect!  -  26 Dec 2013


    Hi I have jsut tried to make this bread and the only thing I can say is that it was slightly doughy! I cooked it on the basic setting but do you think it should have been on the wholemeal setting? i think it just needed slightly longer to cook. All measurements were exact. any suggestions? otherwise this is a lovely tasting bread.  -  25 Oct 2013
