Keri's Shepherd's Pie
A pretty standard shepherd's pie but with extra flavourings from fresh and dried herbs. You can't go past a dish like this for comfort warmth and it's cheap as to make.
Ingredients
Serves: 4
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 450g beef mince
- 150ml beef stock
- 2 tbsp tomato sauce
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp dried mixed herbs
- 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
- 375g potatoes, cooked and mashed
- 4 tsp gravox or similar

- Heat the oil in a frying pan. Add the onion and fry for 5 mins. Add the mince and fry for 5 mins or until it loses its pinkness.
- Add stock, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, herbs, parsley and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 20 mins.Then add the gravox to slightly thicken.
- Transfer to a greased ovenproof dish, and top with mashed potatoes and bake in the oven for 30 mins.
- Serve with steamed veggies; cauliflower cheese goes especially well with this!

I made this one, but added diced carrot with the onions, and in the last 5 minutes of simmering added some frozen peas. It was so good that whatever didn't fit into my baking dish I just ate haha - 30 Apr 2016
I'll try this with the herbs and worcesteshire sauce, sounds like a good variety - BUT I must point out that this is cottage pie, shepherd's pie is made with lamb not beef - 24 Apr 2013
