Red Wine Poached Pears

    During pear season this recipe is always a popular at my house. The pears are infused with the wine, cinnamon and vanilla. A delicious way to end a special dinner.

    Serves: 6 

    • 6 firm pears, peeled but kept whole with stems on
    • 200g sugar
    • 100ml red wine
    • 1 vanilla bean
    • 1 stick cinnamon

    Preparation:15min  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Ready in:35min 

    1. Place all ingredients in a saucepan arranging the pears to sit upright.
    2. Cover the saucepan and cook over medium heat for 15 to 30 minutes depending on the size of the pears.
    3. Serve the pears warm or cold; drizzled with the syrup from cooking.
