hot crab dip served in a bread dipping bowl

Serves: 16 

  • 300g cream cheese
  • 1 small onion
  • 5 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 x170g tins crab meat, drained and flaked
  • a good pinch of garlic powder
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 kilo loaf round, italian bread
  • 1/2 teaspoon papriks

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese, onion, mayo, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Spread mixture into baking dish.
  3. Bake for 20 minutes in preheated oven. While the dip is baking cut a circle in top of the bread, and scoop out the inside to make a bowl, tear pieces for dipping.
  4. Removed the baked crab dip from oven and stir well. Spoon the mixture into the hollowed out loaf.
  5. Place bread bowl and torn pieces in oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes. Sprinke the top of the dip with papriks and serve hot.
