This delectable Szechuan style prawn dish has hints of honey, chilli & garlic. It is extremely quick and easy and makes a great dish for entertaining.


Serves: 4 

  • 4 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons cornflour
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed chilli flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup sliced spring onions
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 380g cooked prawns, peeled and deveined

Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:10min  ›  Extra time:20min  ›  Ready in:40min 

  1. In a bowl, stir together water, tomato sauce, soy sauce, cornflour, honey, crushed chilli flakes and ground ginger. Set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a wok or large frypan over medium-high heat. Stir in spring onions and garlic; cook 30 seconds. Stir in prawns and toss to coat with oil. Stir in sauce. Cook and stir until sauce is bubbly and thickened. Serve.

I would be careful with the honey and tomato sauce - would probably use a little less tomato sauce since i felt like it was too sweet. was a tasty and easy meal though I also tried it with chicken - when cooking with chicken i found that i needed to double the sauce. i tripled the sauce because i also added some chopped chinese cabbage. still yummy! - 15 Jun 2013

This was nice. I had mixed asian vegetables and fish instead in the past. Instead of the soy sauce I used 1/2 tspn fish sauce and 1/2 tspn oyster sauce. reduced tomato sauce to just 1/2 tspn. I also had 2 tablespoons of grated ginger (the real stuff). Served with brown rice. YUMMM. will be having again!!! I don't use cooked prawns. i use green and cook them with most of the ingredients and some vegetables (usually whatever I have. - 28 Mar 2015
