These chicken breasts cooked in in a classic American bbq sauce in a slow cooker, can be eaten with veggies for dinner or you can also use the meat in warm chicken rolls.

Serves: 8

  • 4 large skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
  • 1 cup tomato puree or passata
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup maple or golden syrup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon chilli powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 dashes Tabasco sauce, or to taste

Preparation:5min  ›  Cook:6hours30min  ›  Ready in:6hours35min

  1. Place the chicken breasts into the bottom of a slow cooker. In a bowl, stir together the tomato puree, mustard, lemon juice, garlic powder, maple syrup or golden syrup, Worcestershire sauce, chilli powder, cayenne pepper and tabasco until the mixture is well blended.
  2. Pour the sauce over the chicken, set the cooker to Low, and cook for 6 hours. Shred the chicken with two forks, and cook for 30 more minutes.

For best results, after 6 hours of cooking, make another batch of the BBQ sauce, pour over grated chicken and stir; cook another 1/2 hour until finished.

Cooked it, ate it, loved it. Thanks for sharing this recipe. I changed nothing apart from not shredding the chicken but that was purely for presentation purposes. - 07 Apr 2011

Made this last last and was a huge hit.. I put onion in as well to give it more. Also used coleslaw in the rolls along with the chicken. Was so good. - 21 Jan 2016
