This is a great snack but also a delicious recipe to take to parties. It's a log made of chocolate, nuts, condensed milk and a touch of cognac.
This freezes well. In theory you could make one big log... but it is much easier to handle the dough in smaller amounts and it means you can have a chocolate salami in the freezer to take to parties or for guests etc.
This is very popular in the Czech Rep during Christmas. As we bake a lot of kinds of cookies for that holiday, we use in it all remaining ingredients as various nuts, raisins, dried fruit, broken biscuits from previous baking and so on. We use butter or shortening (melted) and dark rum. Condensed milk is not necessary, it can be substituted just by some sugar. You can use some jam if you wish. When making logs, we spread some dessicated coconut on the plastic wrap and then the coconut is on the surface. I love it! - 15 Jun 2012
