A simple delicious slice to serve as dessert or to have with a cup of very nice coffee. Very easy to make, with not too many ingredients. It improves with age so is better made a day or so before you eat. For a very rich, muddy slice, reduce cooking time by 8-10 minutes

    Ingredients
    Serves: 16

    • Choc Layer
    • 185g butter or marg.
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 cup plain flour
    • Top Layer
    • 250g cream cheese
    • 1/3 cup sugar
    • 1 egg

    Directions
    Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:40min  ›  Ready in:50min

    1. Melt butter and cocoa, add sugar, stir well, then remove from heat and add eggs and flour. Pour into 23cm x 18cm greased or lined pan.
    2. To make the top layer; cream sugar and cheese together, add egg and beat until smooth. Spoon gently over choc layer and swirl with a sharp knife for a marbled effect.
    3. Cook at 180c for 35-40 minutes or until firm to touch and slightly golden.
    4. Cool in pan and cut in small squares or triangles to serve.
    5. Keeps for days in an airtight container in the fridge

Loved it! Best brownies I've made at home! I added half a bar of good dark chocolate to the first step to make it more chocolately. I also forgot to add the egg to the cream cheese mix, but it didn't seem to matter! Will definitely be making again!  -  26 Aug 2013  (Review from Allrecipes UK & Ireland)
