Spiced Savoury Cinnamon Biscuits

    These delicious biscuits are not sweet, but savoury. Ideal to serve with soup, curries or stews. My Indonesian grandmother used to whip them up in 5 minutes and sometimes we were happy with them alone for a light lunch. They are a bit of a different accompaniment to casseroles and vegie dishes and they always bring compliments from guests!

    Serves: 6 

    • 1 egg plus 1 extra yolk for glazing
    • 1/4 cup yoghurt
    • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
    • 200g melted butter
    • 1 tspn cinnamon
    • 1 tspn cumin
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 3½ cups plain flour
    • 1 tspn baking powder

    Preparation:20min  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Ready in:40min 

    1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees C. Mix everything except flour and baking powder and the extra egg yolk.
    2. Then add flour and baking powder and mix together well until a dough forms. Rest the dough for 10 min.
    3. Then place small balls (about a tablespoon each) on a cookie sheet and brush egg yolk on top of each.
    4. Bake in a preheated oven at 400F for about 20-30 min.

    These ended up very dry and bland; if I made them again, I'd reduce the flour and add more spices.  -  30 May 2016
