Aussie style Langos

    An Eastern European dish of deep fried bread rubbed in garlic. The Aussie twist - about 1/2 a tinny of West End Draught!! Serve with soup or stew or have on own as a snack.

    Serves: 4 

    • 2½ cups SR flour
    • ¼ tsp Salt
    • 200ml Beer (room temperature)
    • 2 or more cloves of garlic
    • 1 litre vegetable oil (for deep frying)

    Preparation:1hour  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Ready in:1hour15min 

    1. Mix flour, salt and beer. Work into a dough.
    2. Cover Set aside for 40 minutes.
    3. After that, knead dough for 5 - 10 minutes. Roll into 5cm thick log. Cut log into 12 pieces.
    4. Place pieces back in bowl and set aside for a further 10 minutes.
    5. Slice 1 large clove of garlic onto 12 pieces.
    6. Heat oil in a deep saucepan.
    7. Press a piece of garlic into the centre of each piece of dough. Roll & flatten before dropping into hot oil.
    8. Dough will rise to top. Watch for nice golden colour on edges before turning - 1 to 2 Minutes. (Watch oil temperature)
    9. Place cooked Langos on absorbent paper. Continue till all dough is cooked.
    10. Cut 2nd clove of garlic in half & rub vigorously over bread before eating while still warm.
