Rhubarb and saffron creme brulee
Recipe by:
Elaine Russell
A tart compote of rhubarb makes a nice contrast to this rich custard. While there is no way to completely streamline a crème brûlée, this special-occasion treat is lightened by the fruit and its use of less egg yolk and cream (which is reduced-fat to boot), yet still retains its rich indulgent nature.
Granny Jill's Grandma's Christmas Pudding
We worked out the other day this recipe is probably from around 1890. They used breadcrumbs to pad it out back then and my mother-in-law still does that. It tastes fantastic. Best if you can make it two weeks ahead.
Seasoned Veal
This was my mum's recipe and we all thought we were very posh eating this instead of ham on Christmas day. It looks and tasted just delicious.
Nut Roast Loaf
This is a vegetarian nut loaf that is great for Christmas or Easter, a Sunday lunch or any of those times when a meat roast is traditional. It's got a real "meaty" taste. This also includes a recipe for mushroom sauce/gravy. The original sauce recipe said to strain the sauce before serving but I prefer to just serve as it is-chunky and tasty!
