I started making this Christmas cake when I was 20, and have made it every year since. I try to make it in November, so it has a minimum of one month to be fed with plenty of booze to make it super moist and delicious! The alcohol acts as a natural preservative too, allowing her to be enjoyed right into New Years.

A cone shape can be simply made using a thin plastic cutting board, or any stiff plastic.Glue or stitch to hold seam in place. A simple way to colour your paste is to mix the liquid with some dry icing sugar first, then add to the mix. Warm to keep pliable, but dont melt, as this will result in a coarse grainy texture.

My family aren't big on Christmas pudding so we opt for ice-cream cakes. They are easy to make with the children, look and taste great. Can make them in tree shaped moulds to be more festive. My daughter made a small Christmas tree and was so proud of her efforts.
