The lattice pattern is a classic decoration for shortcrust pies. It works well not only on fruit such as apples, cherries or plums, but also on a poppyseed mixture or jam.
The easiest way to describe this cake is that it's similar to a butter cake with apple crumble on top. Admittedly it isn't my own recipe but I thought I should share it given the success it has been for me. My friends and family love it and I already have several orders for Christmas (as in: please make me one instead of buying me a present!) it was even such a hit with my partner that he refused to share the one I recently made.
This is my take on stewed apples. It's tart and sweet and excellent on its own, with porridge or as a dessert. Yummo!
