Eaten out of hand, crisp raw apples are one of the tastiest, healthiest snacks going, but when cooked they can also be the starting point for an easy delicious dessert. Our baked apple features walnuts for a dose of protein and ‘good’ fat and maple syrup instead of brown sugar.

The lattice pattern is a classic decoration for shortcrust pies. It works well not only on fruit such as apples, cherries or plums, but also on a poppyseed mixture or jam.

The easiest way to describe this cake is that it's similar to a butter cake with apple crumble on top. Admittedly it isn't my own recipe but I thought I should share it given the success it has been for me. My friends and family love it and I already have several orders for Christmas (as in: please make me one instead of buying me a present!) it was even such a hit with my partner that he refused to share the one I recently made.

This is my take on stewed apples. It's tart and sweet and excellent on its own, with porridge or as a dessert. Yummo!
