Slow Cooker Bolognese Sauce

    Serves: 6 

    • 750g beef mince
    • 125g prosciutto, chopped
    • 3 medium onions, chopped
    • 2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms
    • 6 garlic cloves, finely chopped
    • 2 (400g) cans diced tomatoes
    • 825g can tomato sauce
    • 1 (340g) can tomato paste
    • 2 tablespoons dried basil leaves
    • 1 tablespoon dried oregano leaves
    • 1 tablespoon sugar
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
    • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
    • 500ml chicken stock
    • 500ml white wine

    1. Cook mince, onions, mushrooms and garlic in a frying pan over medium heat about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until mince is no longer pink; drain.
    2. Spoon mixture into 4.5 litre slow cooker. Gently stir in remaining ingredients.
    3. Cover and cook on low heat setting 8 to 9 hours or until vegetables are tender.

    On a very quick note (from Italy) Bolognese Sauce has no mushrooms, no tomato sauce, no basil... this might be very good and tasty, but it is not Bolognese Sauce  -  04 Jan 2013  (Review from Allrecipes UK & Ireland)
