This is slightly different to the usual apple crumble topping but is easy to make and utterly delicious. Watch this recipe being made in the Allrecipes Apple Crumble Video.
In a 23cm baking dish, mix sliced apples with brown sugar. In a large bowl, mix together flour, caster sugar, cinnamon and salt. In a small bowl, beat together egg and melted butter. Stir into flour mixture. Spread evenly over apples.

Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until topping is golden and crisp.
Very easy and convertible to other fruits. I used peaches!
Then, I tried mixing all ingredients, added a 1/4 c flour and makes more of a cake...no leftovers!
Great recipe. NOt really a crumble but a sort of sponge. First time I made it I followed the advice of cutting back on sugar the girls loved it. Made it again today with Self raising flour and a touch of milk. It came up as a great little sponge with delicious apple underneath. Thanks for the great idea!
I thought this was delicious and so did my partner. Very simple to make. I only added a sprinkle of brown sugar to the apples and they were just sweet enough without being over-sweet. I also cut back the caster sugar to 135gms and it was still nicely sweet. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a tasty and simple dessert!
Love, love, love. I didn't put sugar in the apples as I thought it would be too sweet. I used a mix of fuji, braeburn and granny smiths. Otherwise, followed the recipe and it was delicious.
Very yummy dessert but not at all like a crumble. More like an insanely sweet and delicious syrup topping. Superb on ice cream, although next time I would try less sugar in the apples and add oats to the topping to give it more solidity.
