We have had this recipe in our family for years (from my Mum's original Big Red Recipe Book, now sadly missing in action). They are amazing and always on the table at our family get-togethers! We only use a 1/4 cup of cocoa. But that's the only difference!
i add a couple spoons of nutella (hazelnut/cocoa) or sometimes a little pnutbutter, i toast my coconut before rolling the balls in it, you can even add crush nuts
Great recipe
I was looking for this as I make a slightly modified version. Basically you add one piece of caramelo chocolate into the centre of about a tablespoon of dough and form a ball around it. Great surprise treat!
It made 26 balls this way.
Great recipe. I needed to make a gluten free version...so I used 2 packets of 200gm Rice biscuits (Arnott brand) to 1 tin of condensed milk - which still was still moist enough, only used 1/4 cup of cocoa (which made it very dark...I suggest halving that in my future batches), then an extra 1/2 - 3/4 cup of coconut to roll the balls in. **Handy hint so don't get a build up of mixture on your hands have a small bowl of water near by and keep fingers and palms a little moist...which made cleaning my hands MUCH more easier and cleaner once done!!
Oh...and this makes about 60 balls...if they are to the amount to 1 1/2 Tbsp about!! They can be kept for about a week refrigerated!!
A great recipe, but it should state how many it makes, not how many people it would serve. How do I know how many you are allowing for each person to eat?
This is a great recipe and a variation on one i used from primary school! But having moved overseas i needed to refresh myself of ingrediants. My little addition is to add about a teaspoon of cinnamon when mixing, they are seriously yum, possible even good for C'mas time
