This green mango pie makes an unusual dessert and its sweet-tart flavor is irresistible! You can make this a closed or open pie.
Ive had my eye on this recipe for a while cos we have an old mango tree in the backyard. It has an amazing taste but is seriously tart!! I served a large version of this it at a party and people either loved its tartness and flavour or they spat it out immediately .... true! I loved it...would probably "temper" the flavour a little with a bit more sugar (see my tweaks) and someone else suggested trying it with a meringue topping. So if you love tart and unusual flavours-go for it! - 02 Jan 2009
Took shortcuts. Whoops I forgot the lime juice. However I shredded the green mango and used the flour and sugar mixture as a crumble on top. Should be interesting to see how it turns out. - 07 Nov 2009
Altered ingredient amounts. I used 16 green mangoes and doubled the sugar....it could probably do with another cup of sugar (or 1/2?). Had no nutmeg so used cinnamon. Used three limes but I think 2 would've been fine. I made it more like a slice than a pie; in two large slice trays...60cm-ish long..and served it with sweetened cream. - 03 Jan 2009
