Home made sausage rolls

    These are great to hide a few veggies in for those kids that wont eat veggies. Any leftover filling can be used to make cocktail meatballs that are great with sweet chilli sauce.

    Serves: 8 

    • 1kg steak mince
    • 1 small onion (or 1 packet of French onion soup)
    • about 400g cooked veggies of choice
    • soy sauce
    • 1 clove garlic
    • 1/2 teaspoon each of salt/pepper
    • 3 small eggs
    • breadcrumbs as needed (start with a couple of tablespoons)
    • 4 sheets puff pastry
    • Italian herbs (marjoram, basil, rosemary, parsley, thyme, oregano, red bell peppers.)for putting ontop of sausage rolls before cooking.

    1. preheat oven to 180 degrees C.
    2. Blend the onion, mixed veggies, soy sauce, garlic, salt/pepper and eggs together in blender. Add this to the mince and mix well. Then add enough breadcrumbs to make mixture firm enough for filling.
    3. Roll out 2 long rolls of mixture across each sheet of pastry, cut through the centre of the pastry and roll up – moistening the edges with milk to help stick. Cut each roll into 4 party sausage rolls (or to the size you want.)
    4. Put on baking trays (seal side down) lined with baking paper so they don’t stick. Brush each sausage roll with a little water then sprinkle with Italian herbs. Bake in preheated oven for around 30 to 40 minutes or until golden brown – about 30 minutes.
