Crab and Cream Cheese Wontons (Rangoon)

Asian inspired wontons stuffed with a crab and cream cheese mixture then deep fried to golden brown. These are delicious dipped in sweet and sour sauce. Great for parties.

Serves: 4 

  • 250g crab meat, chopped
  • 250g cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1/2 teaspoon steak sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 30 wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg yolk, well beaten
  • oil, for deep frying
  • Chinese mustard or sweet and sour sauce, for dipping

  1. Combine crab meat, cream cheese, steak sauce and garlic powder in a medium bowl then blend into a paste.
  2. Place a heaping teaspoonful on each wonton wrapper. Moisten edges of wonton wrapper with egg yolk, gather the 4 corners together at the top then pinch edges together to seal.
  3. Heat oil to 190 degrees C, add wontons in batches then fry until golden brown, about 3 minutes per batch. Remove with slotted spoon then drain on paper towels. Serve with dipping sauce.
