Creamy Fish Mashed Potato Pie

Old fashioned English comfort food. A baked mashed potato case encloses a creamy tuna or salmon filling. Kids love it-everyone loves it.


Serves: 6 

  • 60g butter
  • 1 tablespoon of milk
  • 3 cups of mashed potatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon each of salt and pepper
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 1 tablespoon plain flour
  • 1 cup (250ml) milk
  • 2 x 185g tins fish (salmon, tuna or smoked fish)
  • 2 hard boiled eggs, sliced
  • 125g grated cheddar cheese

Preparation:30min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:1hour 

  1. Combine butter, milk, mashed potatoes and salt and pepper. Line an 20cm casserole or pie dish with half of this potato mixture.
  2. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Heat the tablespoon of butter in a saucepan, stir in flour until frothy add cup of milk while constantly stirring until sauce thickens.
  3. Remove from heat add fish and eggs. Pour fish mixture into potato lined casserole/pie dish. Cover with remaining potato.
  4. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes. Sprinkle cheese over pie. Return to oven for 10 more minutes, or until cheese is bubbly.
