This is a chicken curry with a creamy taste; the kids like it and with the noted garnishes. It is fancy enough to serve for guests as part of an Indian meal.


Serves: 4 

  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) cooking oil
  • 2 teaspoons garlic
  • 2 teaspoons ginger
  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander
  • 2 teaspoons garam masala
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon whole cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon chilli powder, more to taste
  • 700g chicken thighs, off the bone and diced
  • 1 (400g) tin tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup sour cream, more to taste
  • toasted slivered almond
  • fresh coriander leaves

Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:35min  ›  Ready in:45min 

  1. Slice onions and cook in oil over low/med heat until light brown and soft; 10 minutes.
  2. Add garlic and ginger then stir until cooked; 2 minutes.
  3. Add spices and chilli then stir constantly to avoid sticking; 3 minutes.
  4. Add diced chicken and saute; 5 minutes.
  5. Add tomatoes and 1/2 a tin of water then stir well while simmering until chicken is done; 15-20 minutes.
  6. Take off heat and stir in sour cream.
  7. Sprinkle with toasted almonds and coriander leaves to serve; if desired.
