Quick Date Scones

    These traditional light and fluffy scones are sweetened with the richness of the dates. They only take 1/2 an hour in total to make from scratch!

    • 2 cups self raising flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • pinch salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon mixed spice
    • 2 teaspoons sugar
    • 1 tablespoon butter
    • 1/2 cup diced dates
    • 1 egg
    • 1/2 cup milk

    1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.
    2. In a bowl sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, mixed spice and sugar. Rub in butter until mixture looks like fine crumbs then stir in the dates.
    3. In a bowl mix together the milk and egg then pour add in four batches to the flour mixture until it starts to come together.
    4. Turn out dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead until a soft dough has formed.
    5. Using a round cutter, cut as many scones as you can out of the dough. Brush each with milk then place on a tray and into the hot oven.
    6. Bake for about 10-15 minutes or until just beginning to brown.
