Heaping your plate with a generous portion of broccoli is an excellent strategy for healthy eating—but not if you drown it in butter or cheese sauce. Follow the example in this recipe and use a flavoursome olive oil-lemon dressing to flavour steamed broccoli.

2 tablespoons lemon juice

Whisk lemon zest, lemon juice, oil, garlic, chilli and black pepper in a large bowl.
Boil, steam or microwave broccoli florets until crisp-tender. Add to the bowl with lemon dressing and toss to coat well. Top with almonds. Serve immediately. (The lemon juice will cause the broccoli to discolour.)
Too tart and too much garlic, was disappointing. In order to try and make it palatable I added 2 Tbsp. of Balsamic Vinegar and then 1 Tbsp. of Sugar and whisked them into the mixture. After tossing the broccoli in the 'improved' vinigarette, it was edible. - 07 May 2013
