Berry linseed smoothie

    A smoothie is a smart way to start your day, especially when it includes this tasty mix of healthy fruits. Linseeds may seem like an unusual addition, but they blend in seamlessly and make this breakfast drink an excellent source of fibre.

    Serves: 2 

    • 2 tablespoons whole linseeds
    • ½ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
    • ½ cup vanilla low-fat yogurt
    • 1 cup unsweetened frozen mixed berries or blueberries, thawed
    • 1 small banana, sliced

    1. Place the linseeds in a dry blender, cover and blend until ground into a fine powder. Add the orange juice, yogurt, mixed berries (or blueberries) and banana. Cover and blend until smooth and creamy.


    Use any frozen berries and partially thaw them first. When strawberries are in season, use fresh, hulled strawberries in place of frozen berries. Experiment with different flavours of yogurt too—honey-flavoured or passionfruit-flavoured yogurt would be delicious.
