    This is a delicious and hearty pie which is very quick to throw together. If you prefer you can substitute lamb mince and call it a shepherd's pie.

    Serves: 6 

    • 500g lean beef mince
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 1 tablespoon herbes de provence
    • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
    • salt and pepper to taste
    • 4 large potatoes, quartered
    • 1 small garlic clove, minced
    • 6 tablespoons butter, divided
    • 1 1/2 cups frozen peas

    1. Boil potatoes in water until tender, then drain and mash with 2 tablespoons butter and garlic and salt and pepper to taste. Cover and set aside.
    2. Meanwhile, heat oil in pan and add beef, herbs, nutmeg, salt and pepper. Brown the beef well. Preheat the oven to 180C.
    3. In a lightly oiled deep pie pan spread the beef on the bottom, top with the peas and cover with mashed potato. Dot with butter, and bake for 20 minutes.
