Heat the oil in a nonstick pan over a medium heat. While the oil is heating, use a a pestle and mortar to grind the cinnamon and cloves into a powder. Add to the oil and leave it for half a minute, or until fragrant.
Add the washed rice and turmeric powder and stir fry for 3 minutes.
Add all the water and bring to the boil. Simmer on low heat with the lid on, stirring every few minutes, until rice has soaked up all the water and is cooked through. Add more water if necessary. The rice should be dry with separate grains. Serve immediately!
