Spicy Jewish Beef Brisket

    This spicy twist on a classic Jewish beef brisket uses horseradish and mustard for extra flavour. It is cooked in a slow cooker for an easy dinner.

    Serves: 6 

    • 1 1/2 kg beef brisket trimmed and cut in half
    • 1 cup tomato sauce
    • 1 small onion, diced
    • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
    • 1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
    • 1 tablespoon prepared mustard
    • 1 teaspoon sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

    1. Place the brisket in a 3 litre slow cooker. In a bowl, combine the remaining ingredients. Pour over brisket. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or until tender.
    2. Remove the beef; set aside. Pour the sauce into a saucepan; cook, uncovered, over low heat for 13-15 minutes or until reduced and thickened, stirring occasionally. Slice the meat across the grain; serve with sauce.
