Scotch eggs are surprisingly easy to make for such a great presentation. It is fun to serve to people who haven’t heard of them before who get a surprise when they find the egg inside.


Serves: 4 

  • 500g pork sausage meat
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 hard boiled eggs, peeled
  • 1 tablespoon plain flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 egg, whisked
  • 2/3 cup dried bread crumbs
  • oil for deep frying

  1. In a medium bowl, mix together the pork sausage and Worcestershire sauce. Combine the flour, salt and pepper and stir into the sausage mixture.
  2. Divide the sausage mixture into four equal parts. Mould each part around one of the hard boiled eggs, rolling between your hands to shape. Place the beaten egg and bread crumbs into separate dishes. Dip the balls into the egg, then roll in the bread crumbs until coated. Shake off any excess.
  3. Heat the oil in a large saucepan or deep fryer to 180 degrees C or until a cube of bread dropped into the oil turns brown in 1 minute. Lower the eggs carefully into the hot oil and cook for 5 minutes or until deep golden brown.

lovely easy receipe, use quality sausagemeat, goes without saying really, to get the meat to stick to the egg, roll the egg in a little flour and to stop the meat sticking to your hands wet your hands whilst wrapping the eggs, also I baked these in the oven, delicious thanks - 13 Aug 2012


I had trouble with the sausage mixture sticking to the - 29 Jun 2012


Ordinary sausage mince can be used as I had some in my freezer. Added a couple of small jalepeno chilli's and minced garlic. - 03 Mar 2015
