A tried and true recipe for a great toddler's toy. It's non-toxic (though not for eating!) and easily made.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 1

    • 250g plain flour
    • 50g salt
    • 140ml water
    • 1 - 2 tbsp cooking oil
    • Few drops food colouring

    Directions
    Preparation:45min  ›  Ready in:45min

    1. Mix together the flour and salt in a large mixing bowl. Stir in the water and oil.
    2. Knead dough for 10 mins or until mixture is smooth. You might need to add a bit more flour or water until the consistency is smooth but not sticky.
    3. Add food colouring and knead until the colour is fully blended.
    4. Store in a plastic bag in the refrigerator until firm enough to use.

It's nice to see old tried and true recipies turning up on this site. I used to make this for my children when they were small. Also made it for Play Center. 40 years ago. It is easy to make and non toxic even if the little darlings do eat some,it won't hurt them. - 04 Dec 2011

what a great recipe. I added a fair bit of extra flour so it was the right texture but I think it has to be added bit by bit after the initial mix amount. Didn't get the colouring right, maybe I added the drops too late?? Child's day care centre have asked for the recipe! - 11 Jul 2013
