if you like Hawaiian Pizza you'll love this toasted sandwich version of it. The sandwiches are fried in a frypan but you could also do them in a jaffle maker or sandwich maker.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 4

    • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
    • 8 slices bread
    • 4 slices Swiss cheese
    • 8 slices thinly sliced cooked ham
    • 250g drained, crushed pineapple (about 1/2 tin)

    Directions
    Preparation:5min  ›  Cook:10min  ›  Ready in:15min

    1. Have all your fillings ready and spread butter onto one side of each slice of bread.
    2. Heat a large frypan over medium-high heat. Place up to 4 of the slices of bread, butter side down in the frypan.
    3. Top each piece with one slice of cheese, two slices of ham, and about 2 tablespoons of the crushed pineapple. Place remaining slices of bread on top with the butter side up and press doen with an egg slice.
    4. When the bottom of the sandwich is golden brown, carefully flip sandwiches, press down on the top of each one, and cook until browned on the other side, about 1 minute. Repeat steps with remaining ingredients if all four sandwiches do not fit in your frypan.

Loved these! Great variation on grilled cheese when we need a meal in a hurry. Two suggestions: toast the bread first and put the pineapple between the ham and the cheese. It really helps to keep the bread from getting soggy.  -  03 May 2007  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)

Very easy and yummy!!! When I was a teenager I worked for Steak Escape Sandwich Shop and we had a sandwich simular to this called the HAMBROSIA...this tastes very much like it!!!! Next time I'm going to sprinkle some pepper on the ham. This is very easy to make too. My 19 month old daughter LOVED it! Had buns to use up so I grilled the insides of buns and layered cheese and ham on each side then pineapple in middle. Then wrapped in foil and into oven to warm/melt/toast.  -  25 Nov 2010  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)
