Mulled Wine with Orange

    45 minutes

Everyone has their own version of mulled or 'glowing' wine but this is the one we had when I was in Amsterdam.

    40 people made this

    Serves: 8

    • 1 (750ml) bottle red wine
    • 1/2 cup white sugar
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1 orange
    • 8 whole cloves

    Preparation:2min  ›  Cook:43min  ›  Ready in:45min

    1. In a large saucepan on medium-low heat, combine wine, sugar and cinnamon. Cut the orange in half, push the cloves into the outside of the orange halves and place them into the wine.
    2. Heat SLOWLY on LOW heat for about 30 minutes or until steaming. Do not let it boil. Heat your glasses in warm water before serving.

This recipe is a favourite in our family for cold days and tradtionnal drunk on new years eve. One advice: use a stick of cinnamon, instead of groud cinnamon: it's easy to remove and the smell and taste is better. Instead of what one of the reviews says: don't use wine that is too cheap or young. It urnes into 'vinegar' easily.  -  10 Dec 2003  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)

We had this on Sinterklaas Day, and really enjoyed it (my husband is dutch). We used a cheap burgandy - great use for cheap wine!  -  08 Dec 2000  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)

Quite delicious. The wine was a lot stronger than I expected-went straight to my head! Great addition at Christmas.  -  20 Jan 2003  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)
