Add whatever fruit you like to this base recipe. Try chopped dried apricots, prunes, figs, sultanas, coconut, nuts or even chopped lemon and orange peel.
1/2 cup (75g) dark brown sugar
1/3 cup (75g) golden syrup or black treacle
75g dried fruit of choice
1 1/2 cups (225g) porridge oats
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C.
- Melt the butter, sugar and syrup or treacle in a saucepan, but be careful not to let it boil. Stir in the dried fruit, oats and salt and mix thoroughly.
- Press the mixture into a 20cm round baking tin and bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and mark into slices. Lift from the tin and leave to cool before cutting. Store in an airtight container.
I made this slice, following the recipe, and it turned out to be an extraordinarily sweet, sticky, oily mess. Perhaps there's an ingredient missing?
