Easy and Delicious Apple Crumble

    This homemade apple crumble is a delicious dessert that is easy to make and tastes great with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce.

    Serves: 8 

    • Filling
    • 2 apples, peeled and diced
    • 1/4 cup (60ml) water
    • 1 lime, juiced
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons white sugar
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • Crumble
    • 1/2 cup (75g) plain flour
    • 1/3 cup (65g) white sugar
    • 1/4 cup (20g) rolled oats
    • 2 tablespoons rolled oats
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1 pinch salt
    • 55g butter, cubed

    1. Preheat oven to 175 degrees C.
    2. Make the filling

    3. Combine apples, water, lime juice and 1 1/2 teaspoons white sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until well combined. Add 1 teaspoon cinnamon and cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until apples are softened and water has evaporated, 15 to 20 minutes.
    4. Meanwhile, make the crumble

    5. Combine flour, 1/3 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons oats, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and salt in a bowl. Rub in butter until crumbles form.
    6. Spoon apple filling into a 22cm baking dish. Sprinkle crumble mixture over the top.
    7. Bake in the preheated oven until the top is golden brown, about 25 minutes.

    Cook's Notes:

    Lime juice can be substituted with the juice of 1/2 lemon.
