Spiced Wine Cranberry Sauce

    A sweet, spiced cranberry sauce was inspired by the French vin chaud (hot spiced wine) drink, combining 2 festive and flavourful holiday recipes.

    Serves: 8 

    • 375g fresh or frozen cranberries
    • 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 1/2 cup dry red wine
    • 1 cinnamon stick
    • 2 whole star anise
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 1 pinch ground cloves

    1. Mix cranberries, orange juice and brown sugar in a saucepan over low heat. Bring to a simmer; cook and stir until sugar has dissolved, about 5 minutes.
    2. Add wine, cinnamon, star anise, nutmeg and cloves. Mix well. Continue simmering, uncovered, until sauce starts to thicken, about 10 minutes.
